Lancaster is an important, ancient and a hugely historic city in the story of the County Palatine of Lancashire. And even though the administrative centre of the county is not Lancaster (it's Preston), very few Lancastrians regard this city as other than the historical capital. What isn't immediately obvious is that the city is a great focal point for walks. Its position on the River Lune enables riverside walks, while the beautiful Lancaster Canal, originally planned to run from Kendal to Wigan, passes right through the heart of the city, and lets you set off north or south.

Each book contains ten walks chosen by a local expert, all walks are six miles or less and all stay below 1,500 feet. Each walk is fully described with its own easy-to-follow map and points of interest along the way.
